Why it is important for managers and leaders to understand organizational behavior? What are the advantages of understanding one’s management style for managers, leaders, and the organization?

DQ2 Research three major challenges facing today’s health care organizations. Compare the corporate culture of a company like Google or Intel with more traditional corporate cultures. Do you think corporate cultures like Google or Intel could work in the health care field and help resolve some the challenges health care organizations currently face? Why or why not?

DQ1 Select one type of reinforcement available in the health care environment that managers can use to change an employee’s behavior. Describe its application supported by theory. Why is it necessary to have reinforcement? What happens if the organization chooses the wrong type of reinforcement?

DQ2 Discuss the connection of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to the environment of a health care workplace. As a manager, describe how you could utilize the tiers to attract and retain employees.

DQ1 As you read the Transitional Care scenario in the “Allied Health Community” media for Topic 4, did you see more leadership qualities or management qualities? What differentiates between a manager and a leader? In your experience, which has a more positive impact on individuals, leadership or management?

DQ2 Review Feilder’s contingency model, located in chapter 10 of your textbook, Organization Behavior in Health Care. Discuss the assumption in the model that leadership is “fixed” and how this would impact a health care environment. Is this model the most appropriate for a health care environment? Why? Provide an example of how you have seen this model used.

DQ1 Look at the Home Care scenario in the “Allied Health Community” media. Identify the types of conflict that were happening with in the meeting. Identify the decision-making models that were used.

DQ2 Describe the four basic types of conflict and provide examples of each in a health care environment. For each of the types of conflict, provide a type of negotiation that can be utilized effectively for resolution. Explain why you feel that each is the best type of negotiation in relation to the given conflict.
