Group Project

Instructions

Knowledge sharing in organizations is an inexpensive way for Knowledge Managers to help organizations overcome barriers and become more competitive. In this group project, students will draw on their cumulative knowledge of KM, and specifically from the readings on Communities of Practice, to propose effective knowledge sharing strategies.

Members of teams follow pre-established rules for capture, validation, refreshing, and expiration of content. The least formal might be Facebook. The most formal might be an ongoing, complex, scientific research project. Of course, most K-sharing solutions are in the middle of these extremes. The Assignment has Part A and Part B. Students will work in groups.

Groups will be assigned and set up by the Instructor. Each group will select an organization that they agree to study and to report on. All work of the Group is to be conducted in the LEO Study Group workspace.

Part A: K-Sharing Group Paper

The Group will prepare a Report on K-sharing strategies for the selected type of organization. The strategies recommended by the group should be consistent with the type and attributes of the knowledge to be shared, a full understanding of communities of practice, and the purpose of the K-sharing strategy. A group- selected leader will edit the group’s final report incorporating appropriate suggestions from Part B. Each member will post the assignment to their individual assignment folder.

Required Elements to include in the K-Sharing Group Paper:

Each group will create a group name. Each group’s report should include:

The purpose and Knowledge external competitive context of the organization;

Current state of K-sharing in the organization;

Recommended K-Sharing strategies for the organization;

Discussion of how the organization might be improved and better aligned using course readings and articles to support selected K-Sharing approaches;

Identification of technology, human resource, and routines/process elements of all proposed K-Sharing strategies.

Required Formatting of Paper:

A group selected leader will edit the group’s final report incorporating appropriate suggestions from Part B;

This report should be double spaced, 12-point font, and four pages in length excluding the title page and reference page.

Create a group name and list all the contributing group members in your report.

Title page with your group name, group member names, the course name, the date, and instructor’s name.

Include reference page.

This paper is to be written in the third person. There should be no words in the paper such as “I and we;”

Use APA formatting for in-text citations and reference page.

Submit the report in the Assignment Folder.

Part B: Knowledge Sharing Discussion

Each group leader will post a draft of the group’s Part A K-Sharing Report as a topic in the Week 6 discussion. The purpose of the K-Sharing Discussion is to learn from one another. Peers can compare and contrast reports/strategies and make suggestions. Class members will be expected to comment constructively on the content of each group’s report as the participation grade for Week 6. Note: All learning group members will comment constructively on at least two other reports in part B, next week’s knowledge sharing discussion.

Discussions in Week 6 will focus on insights from the each group’s report. Comments include how industries benefit from different K-sharing strategies. Use literature and course readings to support your report strategies and also to support peer comments.
