Week 5 Case Study

Objectives

There are two case studies due in this course. Each case is described below and noted in the Assignment section of Weeks 5 and 7. The cases studies are due at the end of of the week. Each case study focuses on key points in the understanding and the application of concepts being studied. They provide the opportunity for you to apply the concepts presented to a real-world problem or situation by identifying the problem, searching for solutions, and documenting and justifying your results and conclusions.

General Case Study Guidelines

Your case study will adhere to these specifications in addition to the specifications noted for each weekly case study below. Each case study is due by the end of class in the week it is due. Not more that 35% of the content can be taken directly from all sources. This means if Turnitin is used, then the similarity index must be 35% or lower. The final score of the case study will be reduced by 1 point for each percentage point over 35%. This percentage may initially appear high; however, if the suggested format noted below is utilized, the headings, which use the questions, will contribute approximately 15% to the similarity index. A list of common errors found in case studies can be found in this document: “Common Case Study Errors,” which can be downloaded from the the Course Resources page within the Course Specific Resources section.

The format of the paper should conform to Publication Manual for the American Psychological Association ( APA) sixth edition for the title page, introduction, body text, citations, references, and so forth. A basic APA template to work from can be found here. A basic APA tutorial can be found in the Web Links section of Course Resources. All graphics are to be a part of the single case study document you submit. For the APA template, download the document from the the Course Resources page within the Course Specific Resources section.

Note: Wikipedia and unauthored websites are not acceptable sources. Do not use these types of sources, otherwise you will lose points.

Each case is to be completed by student submitting the case. The student must work alone and reflect the work of that student. All DeVry University policies are in effect, including the plagiarism policy. Late papers will not be accepted without prior permission.

Submit completed papers as a Microsoft Word-formatted document. Documents authored in other applications, such as WordPerfect or Microsoft Works, will not be accepted. A sample case study can be found by downloading this document “Sample Case Study,” which can be downloaded from the the Course Resources page within the Course Specific Resources section.

In addition to the above specifications, these specifics apply to this specific case study.

This is a personal case study. Each case study will be unique to the student submitting it.

By Wednesday of Week 1 forecasts the scores you think you will achieve for Weeks, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and send them to your professor.

“During Week 5, using your actual scores for Weeks 1, 2, 3, and 4 and your forecast values, calculate a regression equation, r, and R2 for this data.

Prepare a case study document to answer the following questions. The case study should have a cover page, intro, and body that follows APA format. If a reference is used, such as our text, then a reference page should be included, and appropriate citation(s) should appear in the body of your case study. See the sample case study above for guidance.

1. What data did you use in your regression equation? Which is the independent and dependent variable?

2. What is the regression equation, r, and R2 for your data?

3. Statistically, what does r and R2 tell you?

4. Based on your empirical evidence, how who well did you forecast your results? Justify your response.

You can use any method you like to complete this assignment; however, you need to show your work. Two items in Excel are useful. The correl function will return the correlation coefficient and add-in called “Data Analysis” has a function called regression that will provide all the rest of the information you should need.
