1. Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development:
a. For each of the eight stages in Erikson’s theory of Psychosocial development, clearly describe an example of a situation where YOU were addressing the main crisis of that stage. If you don’t believe that you have addressed a particular stage yet, you may speculate on how you expect you would address the stage in the future (16 points).
b. For each of Marcia’s four identity statuses (Identity diffusion, Identity foreclosure, Identity moratorium, & Identity achievement), clearly describe an example of a situation where a person would be experiencing that identity status (4 points).
c. Which of Erikson’s eight stages, at this point in your life, is most salient to you right now? Explain why. (5 points)
2. Freud’s psychoanalytic Theory:
a. Based on Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, describe how you believe YOUR id, ego, and superego might have interacted with each other during a specific life experience you had (6 points).
b. How would you describe your “ego strength” (3 points)?
c. Describe a time in your life where you believe YOUR behavior was dominated by your id (3 points).
d. Describe a time in your life where you believe YOUR behavior was dominated by your superego (3 points).
e. Describe how you believe YOU might have passed through the psychosexual stages of development. In your answer, consider whether or not you might have ever been fixated on one or more of these stages (10 points).
3. Describe how a person can develop a phobia of dogs from classical conditioning. In your answer describe:
a. The unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, and the conditioned response (12 points)
b. The concepts of acquisition, generalization, and discrimination (6 points).
c. If you were a therapist, describe how you would use the systematic desensitization technique to treat this phobia (4 points).
d. Explain why this procedure is likely to be effective based on what you know about classical conditioning (3 points).
