After reviewing this scenario, explain types of risk management and mitigation and how they might impact decisions made concerning major issues, potential solutions, and recommendations for the given situation. Your analysis must be a minimum of two pages in length. A minimum of one supporting source is required, which can include your textbook. Use APA style when writing your responses. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; quoted or paraphrased material must have accompanying in-text citations.

On the first page of the template, write a letter about empowerment addressed to a new rookie firefighter on your crew. Specifically discuss the empowerment of when and how to speak up, how to be tactful in speaking up to more seasoned firefighters or officers, and the importance of all firefighters watching out for unsafe practices. The body of your letter should be a minimum of 500 words.

On the second page of the template, write a letter to your company officer or a chief officer if you are a company officer addressing a situation where you or a peer could have been injured. In the fire service, these situations are commonly referred to as close calls, but solid situational awareness prevents a bad ending. You are required to explain the situation that occurred and identify recommendations to prevent it from happening again (e.g., training, equipment changes, or staffing issues). The body of your letter should be a minimum of 500 words.

Consider this scenario. The ABC Fire Department has a health and fitness program that is much more progressive than many other departments. Annual physicals are required and paid for by the department, fitness trainers are at the station at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday to work the on-duty crews out for one hour, and a post-fire decontamination procedure is in place.

Of late, two different members seem to be slacking or skipping the mandatory fitness hour. One member is a probationary firefighter who is also a smoker and who claims his knee is hurting from a previous condition. The other is an officer who is considered overweight and out of shape who also claims his knee hurts when he has to climb the stairs of the hose tower. There is more and more dissension among the ranks because some members are not participating in the mandatory fitness program.

Recognize the importance of medical, fitness, performance, and rehab standards. Using this scenario as a basis, address major issues, potential solutions, and make recommendations in a minimum of two pages. Use the CSU Online Library to locate a minimum of one supporting source. Seek out and interview a fire officer about the following topics:

The need for an emerging technology topic that falls in one of the following categories: emergency response, the computer age, training technology, fire extinguishment technology, or future trends. Examples for each topic can be found in the textbook.

How the fire department contributes to the research that organizations are doing benefit the safety and health of the fire service.

You should prepare a minimum of six questions related to the topic you select.

After you conduct your interview, compile your research in an essay that focuses on the need for technology. Make sure to include:

an introduction paragraph about the topics and interviewee,

a bulleted list of questions that were asked along with the interviewee’s responses,

a summary of your thoughts about the interviewee’s responses, and

a conclusion paragraph summarizing your research and what you learned.

Write a minimum of two pages and maximum of three pages. Use Times New Roman 12-point font and double space the entire document. No title page or reference page is required.

For this assignment, you will create an original, three-minute grant request video.

In your three-minute video, you must introduce yourself and discuss the following topics:

department background,

an equipment or training need,

how funding will benefit the department,

financial need, and

justification of the need for grant funding.

If you are not in the fire service, please use the same directions but approach this assignment in the same manner but from a comprehensive fire service approach. In your three-minute video, you must introduce yourself and discuss the following topics:

the fire service background applicable to your request,

an identified equipment or training need,

how the grant process should be utilized to fund the benefit to the fire service,

the financial need, and

justification of the need for grant funding.

This video should provide a clear visual of you speaking. Ensure you dress properly and speak naturally in a pleasant, social way. You may use any recording equipment to record your video, including a cell phone. Record your video in front of a local firehouse, fire apparatus, or other relevant backdrop. If you record your video outside, ensure that there are no distracting or overbearing sounds that hinder the ability to clearly hear you.

After you record the video, you will upload it to YouTube. To submit your three-minute video, copy the link from YouTube into a Word document, and submit it through Blackboard along with the transcript of your video and a reference page containing any references used.

Remember to review the rubric before you submit the link of your original video. If you do not have a way to record a video, you are allowed to create an eight-slide PowerPoint presentation instead. For the presentation, you must follow the same prompt as above but also include at least four images; a title slide with your name, the date, and the title of your original project; a reference slide; and voice-over narration for every slide other than the reference slide. Create a tri-fold brochure on behavioral health for your department. You may use the brochure template found here, find a brochure template through Microsoft Word, or create your own brochure from scratch. The brochure should include the following:

department logo;

at least one apparatus photo;

contact names and numbers for your organization’s employee assistance program (EAP), local behavioral health programs, county behavioral health counseling, state behavioral health help line, and national suicide prevention lifeline;

a brief description of what behavioral health services each of the support agencies in the previous bullet provides;

a description of the strategy of how to adopt each policy in your department.

The scenario: You can paraphrase the scenario, but make sure to use proper citations and references. Use the report as a reference and include corresponding citations.

Major issues: Identify the major problems including their causes in this section so you can identify appropriate solutions later.

Potential solutions: This section evaluates potential solutions for the identified key problems. Often there is more than one solution, so it is useful to evaluate each solution in terms of its advantages and disadvantages. This will also assist in determining your recommendations. Include consideration of the following:

the importance of safety in the design of apparatus or personal protective equipment,

how proactive community risk reduction efforts could have prevented the emergency response hazards,

how enforcement of codes (identify the codes) could have prevented the incident, and

how risk management assessments could have been applied to prevent the loss of life or injury.

Recommendations: This section should outline your recommendations for how your department can avoid a similar situation based upon the given solutions for each of the identified problems.
