Week 1 discussion

DQ1 Present a scenario in which an individual might utilize a counselor, an executive/organizational coach, a mentor, or a consultant. Create one scenario, do not reveal which source of help is needed in your DQ. Respond to peers addressing which method you believe would be appropriate for their scenario. Support your response to peers with scholarly sources.

DQ2 Discuss some characteristics unique to the executive/organizational coaching model. Discuss how coaching and consulting differ from each other.

Week 2 discussion

DQ1 Describe for whom the coach works and to whom they are ethically bound; include the ethical conflicts that could exist because of that relationship. Would it depend on the situation? Explain.

DQ2 Describe how the ethical boundaries are established in an executive coaching relationship. What type of agreement is an executive coach likely to be a part of? As an executive coach, what type of ethical issues would you include in the agreement with an organization?

Week 3 discussion

DQ1 Identify three assessment tools. Explain how and when each of those tools could be used to inform the coaching relationship. Use scholarly sources to support your answers.

DQ2 Research and choose an organization. Briefly describe the culture of the organization. Speculate what challenges the organizational culture may have on executive performance in the organization. Describe how specific aspects or challenges of the organization’s culture effect the way executives perform.

Week 4 discussion

DQ1 Review the “leadership resources” document for articles on various leadership styles. Select four leadership styles. Describe some of the unique challenges a coach would face when coaching executive who employ those types of leadership styles.

DQ2 Choose a leadership style. Draft three questions that would help you engage with an executive who has that leadership style. Why are those questions appropriate for that leadership style? How do the questions encourage reflection?

Week 5 discussion

DQ1 Describe in your own words how organizational culture can effect employee morale and performance.

DQ2 Human performance is frequently dependent on an individual’s ability to marshal physical, emotional, and psychological resources to bear upon both organizational and personal goals. When organizational and personal goals are in conflict, how does the coaching model help resolve those conflicts?

Week 6 discussion

DQ1 Assess yourself using the True Colors personality quiz. In your own words, discuss your results and what you learned about yourself. How will this help you respond to or coach others to gain insight about their performance? Which coaching model are you more comfortable using based on your personality assessment?

DQ2 Read the article “Coaching Models for Leadership Development: An Integrative Review.” Using the five key elements of coaching models, describe what element you think will be most effective when working with organizational clients. What element would you be least effective in? Explain why for both.

Week 7 discussion

DQ1 Review the 15 common cognitive distortions from PsychCentral.com, and choose one of the common cognitive distortions. Discuss how coaching could be used to help the client reconsider the cognitive distortion.

DQ2 Describe the importance of emotional intelligence in coaching executives/organizational teams in an organizational settings. Recommend coaching strategies for improving levels of emotional intelligence.

Week 8 discussion

DQ1 In your own words, describe the key elements you believe are important to have in a coaching agreement.

DQ2 Post a rough draft of your coaching agreement to the discussion thread. Comment on at least two of your peers regarding their coaching agreement. Provide feedback that includes strengths and challenges you see in their coaching agreement.

Develop a coaching plan for an individual within an organization. Take into consideration the coach, individual, and organization relationship when constructing your plan. Your plan should include:

Boundaries of confidentiality you will set as the coach, with the client and organization or other stakeholders (communication in session and out of sessions, meeting time)

A clarification of personal and professional goals of the coaching (the desired outcomes of the coaching)

A timeline to reach the goals of coach and client, including benchmarks for improvement.

Check-in points, which includes a self-reflection of what is working with the client and what is not working, how to adjust, checking in with client to see if they feel they are making progress.

Guidelines for leaving the coaching relationship (reflective questions, future goals, how will they use skills learned).
