Requirements

The Policy Cycle Paper is worth 200 points and will be graded on use of citations, use of Standard English grammar, sentence structure, and overall organization based on the required components as summarized in the directions and grading criteria and rubric.

Create your exercise using Microsoft Word (a part of Microsoft Office), which is the required format for all Chamberlain University documents. You can tell that the document is saved as a MS Word document because it will end in .docx.

Preparing Your Policy Cycle Paper

For the purpose of this exercise:

The California legislature recently introduced a ban on the use of trans fats by restaurants but rejected a ban on bisphenol A (BPA). There have also been many recent public health policies that influence different aspects of life from seat belt and cell phone use in cars to access to healthcare.

Review Chapter 7 and Figure 7-1 on page 123. Write a five- to seven-page paper describing the policy cycle for the creation or rejection of a public health policy of your interest. Write an analysis of the environmental health policy that you have identified. The elements of your analysis should include the following.

Policy Development:

Public health considerations that led to the policy

Possible role of political and special interest groups in the policy development

Assessment and Evaluation

Assessments and evaluations that may pertain to the policy

Outcomes:

Risks and benefits that may derive from the policy

Successes and failures in implementation of the policy

Also, define the following terms and describe how they are used in the policy-making process.
