Were the concepts of fluid and/or crystallized intelligence demonstrated through the test you took? Why or why not? Provide examples from the test itself in support of your response.

Did the test measure practical and/or emotional intelligence? If so, how? If not, how did it not measure practical and/or emotional intelligence? Provide examples from the test in support of your response.

Was the test accurate in measuring intelligence, according to Binet? If so, how? If not, how was it not accurate? Provide examples from the test to support your answer.

How might this test have been culturally biased? Conversely, do you feel that it was culture fair? Provide examples from the test that support your perspective.

OR

B. Multiple Intelligences

What is meant by Multiple Intelligences?

There are many reasons why people conform. Were you ever in a situation where you had to conform? Why did you feel the need to conform?

PSY101 Fundamentals of Psychology I

Unit 1 Paraphrasing Assignment

The paraphrasing assignment is designed to help you rewrite a paragraph in your own words. This is a skill you will need for this course and future courses as you conduct research to write papers.

Complete the following steps:

1. Watch the following video on plagiarism and APA citation format:

http://flash1r.apa.org/apastyle/basics/index.htm

2. Read the following course requirement for writing in Psychology courses at Post University.

For all written work in this course, it is expected that you will write using your OWN words. You are expected to discuss psychological concepts, theories, and research results. In doing so, you will learn to communicate using the “language” and terminology of Psychology. Although you will learn the language of Psychology, it is critical that you communicate your learning by using your own words. If you describe the theory or research results of others; you must paraphrase, or summarize, the main ideas in your own words. Visit this website below to learn more:

https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/563/02/

After reviewing the links above, paraphrase/summarize the paragraphs below. That is, re-write them in your OWN words. Paraphrasing is the only way you can clearly show your instructor what YOU have learned. Remember that paraphrasing is not substituting words, combining portions of sentences around to create new sentences, or moving sentences around. Try and capture the meaning of the passage as a whole, rather than paraphrasing sentence by sentence. Refrain from using paraphrasing tools, or websites that will paraphrase for you, as you will receive a failing grade for doing so. Information submitted from a paraphrasing tool is not your own work and the paraphrased material churned out by these tools rarely makes any sense. In addition, using these tools violates Post University’s Academic Dishonesty Policy. As you read the paragraphs below, consider how you would summarize the information in your own words.

The following passages are taken from page 21 of your textbook:

“Nature (heredity) versus nurture (environment) is one of the major issues that psychologists address. How much of people’s behavior is due to their genetically determined nature (heredity), and how much is due to nurture, the influences of the physical and social environment in which a child is raised? Furthermore, what is the interplay between heredity and environment? These questions have deep philosophical and historical roots, and they are involved in many topics in psychology.

A psychologist’s take on this issue depends partly on which major perspective he or she subscribes to. For example, developmental psychologists whose focus is on how people grow and change throughout the course of their lives may be most interested in learning more about hereditary influences if they follow a neuroscience perspective. In contrast, developmental psychologists who are proponents of the behavioral perspective are more likely to focus on environment.

However, every psychologist would agree that neither nature nor nurture alone is the sole determinant of behavior; rather, it is a combination of the two. In a sense, then, the real controversy involves how much of our behavior is caused by heredity and how much is caused by environmental influences.”

3. After you have written your paraphrase/summary, reread it a couple of times to make sure it makes sense, both in terms of content and grammar.

4. Remember to include in-text citations. Your in-text citation for this assignment should look like the sentence below. Note that the in-text citation comes before the period at the end of the sentence.

This is the sentence referencing the resource (Feldman, 2015).

5. In addition, you will need to include a reference at the end of your paraphrasing assignment. Your reference should look like this:

McGraw Hill.

6. On a separate page, answer the following questions:

a. What is plagiarism? If you are submitting a written assignment and you cut and paste a portion of someone else’s writing and add a citation, is that considered acceptable?

PSY101 Fundamentals of Psychology I

Unit 2 Scholarly Source Assignment

What is the Difference between a Scholarly Journal Article and a Popular Magazine Article?

It is important that the information you learn about Psychology is supported by strong academic research. Research that is published in peer-reviewed journals is considered scholarly work. For this assignment you will distinguish between a scholarly journal article and a popular magazine article.

1. Please view the “Welcome to the Traurig Library!” Tutorial: Welcome to the Traurig Library Tutorial

2. Write a minimum one-page essay following these guidelines:

• Summarize the characteristics of each type of article.

• Compare and contrast a scholarly journal article with a popular magazine article by including three ways they are similar and three ways they are different.

• Choose a scholarly article related to your research paper topic and a non-scholarly article directly related to your topic and explain how they are similar and different. Please use specific examples from each article.

• Make sure to include references to your articles.

PSY101 Fundamentals of Psychology I

Unit 4 Paper Resources Assignment

For your course paper, you will need to include a minimum of FOUR scholarly sources to support your ideas. One source may be your textbook and the other three should be scholarly journal articles.

It is similar to an annotated bibliography. Refer to the following resources for more information.

For this assignment,

• List your sources in APA style. For more information on APA style, refer to this website: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/

• Include a permalink to any scholarly articles you use. You will lose one point for each scholarly article that does not include a permalink. So, if you forget to include permalinks for four sources, you will loose 4 points off your assignment grade.

• Summarize the main findings described in the sources.

• Explain how each source relates to your paper topic.

PSY101 Fundamentals of Psychology I

Unit 5 Paper Outline Assignment

Prior to writing your course paper in paragraph form, you will create an outline for your paper. The outline should be organized similarly to the sample outline provided in the attached document. Your outline should have an Introduction section, Body section, and Conclusion section. The Body section should be organized according to themes you will discuss in your paper. The scholarly sources you are using must be included in the sections in which you plan to discuss their content.

Refer to the attached assignment document for full details and grading rubric.

Please note that the sample is only a guide and does not go into much detail about certain things. Your outline should be as detailed as possible. For example, the outline says:

Further introduction of your topic

Define (Symptoms of Depression)

Incidence (Numbers/Demographics)

Relevance (Broader Implications; Mental Health crisis)

If you are defining terms in your paper, in your outline, do not simply state “Define X, Y, and Z” in a bullet point in your outline. Instead, include definitions for those terms in your outline. The same is true for “Numbers/Demographics”. If you state that you will discuss statistics in your paper, your outline must include statistics and specific demographic information. Your instructor will want to know what information, specifically, you will include in your papers, and this is important for the following reasons:

This will make it easier for you to write your paper before it’s due. You will have all the information in your outline! More work now means less work later!

It gives your instructors a chance to confirm that the information in the outline, which will then be used in your paper, is accurate.

PSY101 Fundamentals of Psychology I

Unit 7 Course Paper

You are required to complete one course paper during the 8-week module; it will be due at the end of Unit 7. Please note that PRIOR to completing the course paper you will complete two other assignments that are designed to help you write a successful course paper. These include:

1. Course paper resources assignment due by Sunday of Unit 4

2. Course paper outline assignment due by Sunday of UNIT 5

These assignments are designed to help you complete your paper in stages. You will be graded on these assignments and receive feedback from your instructor so you will be comfortable that you are on the “right track” to complete the course paper in UNIT 7.

The requirements for your course paper are as follows:

• Written in the format of the most current (6th) edition of the APA manual.

• This type of research paper is similar to a literature review in that you will be discussing what information is currently known about your topic.

• Include a discussion of psychological theory AND key research findings relevant to your chosen topic (below). Your incorporation of theory and research should come from the information you find through your reading of scholarly sources and journal articles (from your course paper resources assignment due in UNIT 3).

• Include specific examples that support theory and research.

• Please note that this is NOT an opinion essay.

• The body of the paper must be five full pages in length, not including APA style title page and References page.

• Each paper must be a Word document, double spaced with size 12 Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins on all sides.

• Please use complete sentences, appropriate grammar, spelling, and a minimum of 4 SCHOLARLY references (you may use your textbook as one reference). Please be sure to avoid using Internet sources such as Wikipedia or other web-based resources that do not have strong academic backing.

• You will also be required to use in-text references in your work in accordance with APA style to avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism detection software will be used to scan each paper.

Refer to the rubric below for a guideline as to how your paper will be graded. Students are strongly encouraged to use the writing center ([email protected].edu) for assistance with all assignments.

Each paper must be submitted via Blackboard; emailed copies will not be accepted. Policies in regard to turning work in late also apply to these assignments.

Course Paper Topics: Please choose ONE of the following topics below for your paper:

• Compare and contrast humanistic and behavioral approaches to psychology? Please be sure to use at least 4 scholarly research examples to help demonstrate these principles.
