HISTORY OF ANIMATION ART 227, FEA 227 Fall Semester 2019 – Final Assignment

For your final assignment, you are to write a paper comparing two animated feature-length films or two broadcast series. ? For features, you must select one film released during the years 1925-1985 and another released from 1986 to the present. ? For broadcast, you must select one series (not an episode, but an overall analysis of the series) from 1949 through 1988, and the other from 1989 to the present. Both television and internet series are acceptable.

Your assignment is to compare/contrast the two projects’ approach to the following: ? Theme ? Artistic style As you plan your paper, it might be helpful to ask yourself questions like: How would you describe your project’s themes? Are they similar? Different? Do the themes reflect the era in which the projects were made? What about the style of each project? Do the designs, animation, filmmaking techniques have elements in common? Do the artistic styles reinforce the themes?

Your paper should be no less than 700 and no more than 1000 words, excluding reference citations. (Citations are not necessary if your paper is entirely your own conjecture and opinion, but if you quote others or refer to other writing in your arguments, citations must be given. An example of the simplified citation format is below.)

Wikipedia is not to be used as a reference source for this assignment.

Your paper should be submitted in a doc, docx or pdf format, using a 12 point Ariel or Helvetica font, 10 point for citations. 1.5 line spacing is preferred (single space for citations). Make sure your heading includes your name and student number and that you have numbered your pages as well. Content is, of course, most important, but attention will be paid to paragraph and sentence structure, grammar and spelling.

Your paper, submitted to the Beachboard dropbox posted to receive final assignments, is due by 11:59:59 p.m., Thursday December 12, 2019.

Citation Example
