The Experiment

The experimental method(see pages 28-33 and also focus on chapter review, pages 39-41 for information about experiments) allows for the study of cause and effect relationships. An experimental design requirescontrolled elementsin order to make these causal statements. For this assignment, you will be asked to use several key concepts of an experiment.

Researchers are interested in learning whether listening to classical music while studying improves memory.

Design an experiment to test whether listening to classical music for all students in the Experimental Groupcan improve memory of specific text.

Use a short story of 4 pages for the text. The short 4 page story is the material used in your experiment. You can name the story or just state that students will study a 4 page short story.

The total number of students for the experiment will be 40, 20 in the Control Group (CG) and 20 in the Experimental Group (EG).

Unit 4 Assignment

Understanding Psychological Disorders and Therapy

Chapters 14 and 15 of your textbook describe several disorders and therapies. For this assignment, you are asked to use our textbook and the internet to describe Major Depressive Disorder and explain which therapies might be helpful to those suffering with this disorder (by answering questions 1-6 below).

Your paper should be 3-5 pages, double-spaced describing this disorder and how it could be treated.

When you use academic sources from the internet and/or the textbook, please provide the references or the textbook page numbers (after each question).

3. Based on the DSM IV TR or DSM 5 criteria, provide a definition of the diagnosis and the symptoms for Major Depressive Disorder. You can find this on the Internet, as your textbook only provides a general summary of the symptoms.

6. What types of therapy would benefit a person with Major Depressive Disorder, please be very specific.
