Your age advocacy group is working with your county commissioner’s office to help make decisions on community planning by completing a study of the city’s aging community, preliminary to developing a new agency on aging. Your group has been asked to develop proposal for funding for this study and explain why the study of gerontology is important to the development of the city, and why the aging population of your city must be recognized and considered in the planning process. Individual DeliverableIn a paper of 3 pages, provide the following information: excluding cover page, abstract page, and reference page. What are the broader implications of aging in U.S. society, and more specifically, how do these implications become the responsibility of cities and communities? Identify at least 1 theory about aging (e.g., disengagement theory, activity theory, continuity theory) that is relevant to your decision-making process as a member of the age advocacy group. Describe at least 2 changes that often occur cognitively within an aging community (e.g., loss of memory, lack of attention) that make a study of your community’s aging population pertinent. What are some of the future implications regarding the needs of an aging population for which your city must be aware? Identify and describe at least 1 benchmark or best practice of other age-related agencies that address one of these theories or changes mentioned in the earlier questions. Support your answers with research from the library and the Web.
