Teachers must get to know them well and enables them to reach goals that are both challenging and achievable.  Teachers practice should be appropriate to childrens age and developmental status, and aware  of each of their unique needs. An early childhood teacher who uses the DAP approach knows how children develop and knows to use age appropriate material in her classroom. She plans the layout of her classroom according to what and how she wants to teach the children. For example, shelves are low to the ground so children can access materials without help, or a library center with books and bean bags so the children can choose a book and look at them independently. The science center may be next to a large window so children can look outside and get a glimpse of nature. Hands-on activities are provided for their development and experience. Puzzles, blocks and dress-up clothes help the children develop thinking skills, problem solve and use their imagination. The teacher is consistently assessing the children’s development and encouraging them to reach a higher level of development, knowing that each child is different and learns at his or her own pace. She understands that children have different learning styles and puts an emphasis on developing the whole child. This means she pays attention to the emotional needs of the child as well as the academic needs while she is planning her curriculum and daily schedule. Outdoor activities are planned for children. Teacher directed and child-guided play is offered when they go out for recess. In addition, the teacher will pay attention to each child’s home culture and partner with the families. She builds relationships with the families, so she can know the values, customs, traditions and languages to better understand and support the children.Student #3 Comment: Response must be exactly 100 words.In the field of the early childhood, a development appropriate curriculum means for teachers to develop a learning curriculum that is appropriate for the children. Teachers need to implement this curriculum to meet the needs of the children their working with. It would be best if the teachers have education about child development so they can better understand the stages of their development. This will also help them select the materials to include in their classroom that will help enhance the skills of the children and their cognitive development.Teachers need to know their children and learn about their strengths, interest and needs therefore will help them to select materials that the children can use to avoid making them feel overwhelmed. Classroom materials need to be safe and in good conditions for safety reasons. This means puzzles pieces need to be complete and have a variety of them, so if you have for children that are more advance and for the ones that are still developing this skill. Also, if materials are sturdy they will last longer. Is important to make the children feel confidence and help them make progresses. The teacher’s role is to support children when they need assistance. Sometimes by observing how their playing in the classroom will know if they need help or not because not all children will ask for help. Also, by helping them engage in conversations about what they’re doing and to establish relationships with them too. Is important to help children become independent and make them feel comfortable in the environment so they can explore the environment freely. Teachers need to have patience with the children and talk to them at their eye level in a respectful manner. Teaching them through play they learn many concepts like math, counting and matching, social skills, language, and vocabulary, sounds, and emotional skills. Therefore, is important to careful select the environment materials. Sometimes they have spills and they need to feel that is okay and accidents happen. Then you can have the children brainstorm ideas of some solutions of what can we do when these types of accidents happen. These are called teachable moments.
