Draft OutlineInstructions: Step 1:Sequentially number every paragraph in your draft, and then, on a separate piece of paper, write a one-sentence statement about the main idea or point in each paragraph.Step 2:Take your outline and draw a map. Use the main idea of each paragraph and show how the ideas connect.Remember, your map must MOVE. If the ideas are obvious, then maybe your map is in a straight line. If your map brings in new sources and ideas, perhaps your map “turns.” If you connect your ideasStep 3Look at your finished map. Answer the following questions:Is the path a straight line? Or does the path turn?Maybe there is a paragraph that uses a “complicating” word like but, however, or although that causes the conversation to go in a new direction and causes the path to take a turn. Is there a fork in the path? Is there a moment when more than one option is entertained?Are there gaps?
