Reply to one of the following (250 Words)Who was Lawrence of Arabia and what was his impact on the Middle East?The Armenian Genocide: What happened? Why is there such a fight today over the use of the word ‘genocide’? What does it mean to the Armenians to have the world acknowledge it? Why are the Turks unwilling to admit it? Was the elimination of the Armenians (as well as Greeks, Jews, Arabs, and any other non-Turkish group mandatory in order to create a new, modern state and keep out those with alternative loyalties?I want to direct your attention to a very important figure in the Middle Eastern history and contemporary politics field. His name is Juan Cole and he’s a Modern Middle East historian. His blog is: juancole.com and he has some good information about a variety of topics there. Anyway, he wrote this book called ‘Napoleon in Egypt’ which attempts to draw parallels between the current Middle East situation and the French invasion of Egypt 1789 to 1801. Cole argues that ‘the Middle East’ only became radicalized three times in its history and in each of these three times it was in direct response to a Western invasion/’intervention’ (Crusades, Napeolon, Imperialism) Napoleon invaded Egypt and tried to establish a colony. The French came in with zero prep work and no idea what they were doing or how long it would take. They just trusted their leader (Napoleon) who told them that glory would come to them. They didn’t know about the religion, language, or customs of the area. Cole describes how Napoleon and his generals tried to work with various groups and sects within Egypt and how they tried to play off one group against another, the desert fighting, lack of technology, etc After fighting many skirmishes in the desserts with the people, they had to fight urban guerilla wars and were eventually kicked out due to wasting so much money….
