This short paper (3 pages- APA format) requires students to apply their understanding of economic theory to real world events and provide an opportunity to study the impacts of politics, social & financial contexts, and government policies on the economy. To complete the 30 points assignment, you are required to:1.Find a newspaper, journal or magazine article on a macroeconomics subject. (5 points)2.Summarize the article in 1-2 paragraphs. (5 points)3.Explain the economic significance of your article: why is the topic interesting and/or important, particularly in terms of the material we are studying in the class. This section would be at least 2-3 paragraphs and should reflect your understanding of the course material. (10 points)4.Write a short 1-2 paragraphs about your own opinion of the topic. (5 points)5.Write a paragraph or so on your opinion about the article itself, did you find it well-written or did it leave too much unexplained. Did the author seemed biased or objective, and was this an appropriate position? Any other comments or opinions on the article should be included here. (5 points)It is worth spending some time finding a good article for this assignment. You might look in the local newspapers business section, in international financial magazines and journals such as The Economist or Financial Times (you can find access to these and other magazines requiring a paid subscription through the library website), news and business magazines such as Business Week, Time, etc. I do not recommend trying to write your paper based on short economic summary type articles that simply give a bit of economic data, these don’t provide enough of the basis for a good paper, and your grade will reflect that.
