Monitoring of the operations of employees and other members of an organization can sometimes work to benefit the firm. That is because through the monitoring, it is possible to determine certain areas that the corporation may need or will one day require to make changes for better performance. When looking at the computer security and related issues, monitoring seeks to serve a different function. For instance, monitoring how employees use the internet on different assets which belong to the organization is required for certain reasons. Even though some individuals might argue against it, it is important that managers or executives of organizations have a way of making sure that they are able to monitor how the workers use the internet on their devices or gadgets. One of the reasons for this requirement is that it helps in the prevention of cyber security threats such as worm attacks. That is because some employees may fail to implement the required security protocols when using the assets in browsing the internet. As such, they are likely to be soft targets for the propagation of a number of cyber-attacks.
The other reason for the need to monitor internet usage is about the productivity of employees. The internet is a good tool for performing a number of functions. However, it might also be used for other activities that are detrimental to the organization. Monitoring ensures that the employees focus on the business-critical activities most of the time as opposed to doing other things that might not be fruitful o the success of the organization. The employer can make a wide selection of monitoring software which ranges from downloadable freeware installed on employees’ systems to the integrated enterprise editions. Therefore, such tools are easy and cheap to be implemented in the company assets for monitoring of Internet usage. It is evident that there is software that allows monitoring of an employee through a remote on the software that is installed on the employee’s machine and gives reports to a specific e-mail address.
