Yourassignment is to write a 3-5 page paper explaining and critiquing 1-3 scientificjournal articles. You may choose any topic that relates to the brain andbehavior. Pick a topic of interest to you. It could be related to mentalhealth, sleep, emotional processing, a new discovery or treatment optionrelated to a neurological disorder, sensory processing, basic neuroscience, ora cognitive finding related to brain function. Be sure you find an experimentalstudy, not a meta-analysis or review paper.

Youshould demonstrate an understanding of the article/s by discussing relevantissues in a meaningful way and explain the strengths and weaknesses of thestudy.

1)Summarize the journal articles:

        Describethe research methods and results of the article.

        Whywas the research conducted?

        Whatwas the hypothesis tested?

        Whomwere the research participants or subjects? How many experimental groups wherethere?

        Whatwere the independent variables that were manipulated or measured? How did theyquantify or measure them?

        Whatwere the dependent variables (the outcome measures)? How were they measured?

        Whatgroup differences (if any) were observed? What did this outcome imply about thehypothesis or prior research findings?

2) Evaluate the articles:

        Whatwere the main strengths of the study as it relates to study design?

        Whatwere weaknesses or limitations?

        Howcould the study be replicated to improve it?

        Whatwas the most critical result?

        Wasthere sufficient detail in the method to replicate the research?

        Couldyou assess the basic methods of the experiment and understand what was done?

        Couldyou evaluate the merit of the experimental design?

        Whatdid you learn from reading these articles?
