Over the course of thetermyou have been learning about different aspects of the environment and our relationship with the environment. For each chapter, we have also been learning about and discussing case studies of environmental problems around the world (e.g. air quality in China). Now that you have foundational knowledge of the environment and how to seek out and use scientific information in your writing, your assignment is to choose an environmental problem and write no less than 5pagesand have no less than 5 peer-reviewed journalarticles (see video on how to search for peer-review andcite literature). Please pick a topic you are most interested in learning more about.Papers must include the following sections:
Introduction- Introductions communicate to the reader what problem will be addressed and why it is important. Introductions allow writers to create boundaries on what will be addressed and discussed. In this section you may use websites, newspaper articles, andother non-scientific information sources to help support your writing (note: this is the only section you may use this type of information). This section should be around 2 paragraphsin length.
Main body-These are a collection of paragraphs which present what we currently know about a problem or issue. Writers may present data (if available) that provide evidence there is a problem, the scope of the problem, and the consequences (what may occur if the problem continues). Writers may pull information from peer-reviewed journal articles or government documentsto make an argument.You should have no less than 5 peer-reviewed journal articles with in-text citations and properly references. This section shouldbe around 3-4 pagesin length.
Discussion-The discussion is a writers contribution to furthering our knowledge and understanding about the problem/issue. Writers may include possible solutions to the problem, policy, planning, or management shortcomings, and future research needed to reduce uncertainty regarding future actions to reduce the problem.This section should be around 1 pagein length.
Conclusion-A conclusion is a short summary of what was presented in the paper. Like the abstract, it helps the reader to synthesize what they learned in the paper and what are the major take-away points discussed in the paper.This section should be around 2 paragraphsin length.
Bibliography-Students will include all articles, documents, or books referenced in the paper in APA format.
Assignment FormatPapers will need to follow the following format for consideration and grading purposes.
1.Page minimum: 5 pages of text (that include introduction, main body, discussion, and conclusion. Title and references excluded from page minimumcount).
2.Spacing: 1.5
3.Font: Times New Roman, Garamond, Calibri
