We will begin this process on 6/17 6/22 for poetry and continue with it on 6/24 7/06 for short stories. On the syllabus, it is noted under summary/response and presentations. Here is how this will work.First, I have attached a sign-up sheet to this email. Each student MUST sign up to present thoughts on either a poem or a short story. There can only be a MAX of 2 students presenting the same poem or story. Please reply to this email with your top 3 choices in priority. It is on a first come first serve basis. After each student has responded as to which piece of literature they would like to present, it is time to begin the research.What I am asking each student to do is to find a piece of professional literary criticism on a specific poem or short story. If 2 students have signed up and chosen the same poem or short story, make sure to communicate with each other so that you are not presenting the same piece of criticism. For example, if Mike and Beth choose Sylvia Plaths poem Daddy, each of them must find a different article to present to the class. Once you find an article to present, you must write a ONE-page summary of the criticism and a ONE-page response to the ideas the author presents in the criticism. You will post your summary/response on the main discussion board on the listed due date for a whole class discussion. From there, each student in the class then will comment on what you presented in the summary and response. That means, if you are not presenting, to earn credit, each student needs to respond in the whole class discussion to the summary/response on the main discussion board. If you are a presenter that day, you do not need to respond to other presentations. Your work is to present. This is how youll make your presentations, how youll earn credit, and how well discuss the literature.This assignment is worth 10% (100 points) of the total course grade. After the student posts his/her summary response by the due date, the rest of the students will have until the end of the day to respond to it. Ill post the deadline for responses. Please note: The chances are you will not find specific criticism on a particular poem or short story. If this is the case, you will need to search for criticism based on the TITLE of the book the poem or short story comes from. By finding criticism on the entire work the specific piece of literature comes from, you will find that the criticism will argue and develop themes and perspectives the author gets out with the entire work,
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
and the poem or short story will contribute to that criticism. For example, you will not find specific criticism for Mitsuye Yamadas poem The Question of Loyalty, but if you search for the criticism on the book, Camp Notes and Other Poems, where the poem comes from, you will find criticism that you can use to develop the summary/response.When beginning to write the summary and response, post the link where the article is located then please cite (MLA style) the article at the start of the presentation. Example:Witherington, Paul. The Accomplice in The Tell-Tale Heart. Studies in Short Fiction, 22 (1985): 471-475.After the citation, begin the one-page summary followed by the one-page response to the article.
