Nosocomial infections remain a problem in the United States, with 1 in 25 inpatients having nosocomial infections (CDC, 2018). Infectious diseases can be transmitted to patients in hospitals and medical facilities in a variety of ways. Healthcare workers can be transmitted from contaminated equipment, bedding, or droplets, as well as from contaminated hands. HAI can also come from the external environment or the community. Hand hygiene is recognized by infection prevention and management professionals as one of the most important means of promoting the spread of infection in both medical and community areas. Since hand hygiene is an integral part of the work of caregivers and other healthcare professionals, it is important to practice hand hygiene frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand disinfection. The main problem with hand hygiene treatment is non-compliance by medical professionals (Becker`s Healthcare, 2013).

Evidence-based practices also show that the reduction of nosocomial infections begins with compliance by healthcare professionals with hand hygiene practices and the removal of obstacles associated with non-compliance. Hand hygiene (Elizabeth, Sydney & Cyrus, 2013). The first steps organizations take to ensure health care workers' hand hygiene compliance are to further educate hospital-acquired infections, hand hygiene practices, and to wash hands (soap sinks) and hand hygiene products.
