 Discussion  – Informal Assessments

In the lecture, we discussed formal and informal assessments that are beneficial for students with disabilities.  Many of the assessments we discussed are utilized to obtain baseline data and weekly progress monitoring.  Lastly, we discussed how the assessments are utilized for transition planning (CO2, CO9, CO10).

Instructions:

· Discuss the advantages/disadvantages of Federal and State regulations mandating students with disabilities must be taught the same curriculum and assessments as nondisabled peers.  What historical events led to Congress mandating the change?  Include professional experience and historical citations.

· Explain formative assessment and how teachers utilize it to support the curriculum.  How can formative assessment be used as a teaching strategy to address student deficits?
