As you prepare to respond to the discussion question(s) and peers, be sure to read through the assigned readings in advance of participating in the discussion. The topic questions are designed for you to reflect upon your practice role as a professional and how you address the IOM competencies. Your responses can include your personal experiences, what new learning emerged from the discussions, how you embrace values or question ethical situations, and/or theoretical and empirical literature to support your comments. You may also provide constructive comments and include questions to clarify a point or advance the dialogue with peers.

• Discuss with peers one of your experiences (or how you see yourself engaged in) where you have made a decision that is supported by research, nursing theory, or other disciplines. How did you translate it into the type of change needed for any one of these areas: patient-centered care, safety, quality improvement, mitigating errors, inter-professional collaboration, evidence-based practice, healthy work environments, or advancing practice?
• Identify the challenges nurse leaders may encounter when attempting to utilize best evidence in practice settings.
