Description: In this project you will begin by identifying an existing need/problem for college commuter students and clearly define the issue(s). In response to this need, you will recommend a solution that might suggest reforms for an existing activity, or require the creation of a new activity. Finally, you will fight for funding for your reforms/activity.

To make your argument, you will write a formal proposal to the person or committee responsible for granting funds for your activity. All parts of this essay will be supported by credible research.

Proposals function as a mechanism for the distribution of scarce resources and opportunities. When people in the workplace want to persuade an outside agency to give them money or other resources, they write a proposal. Proposals can also be written in response to requests by outside agencies, while sometimes they are written to persuade someone to do something within an agency usually to solve an existing problem ( Norton Field Guide to Writing).

Argumentative essays require investigation into a topic, the collection, generation, and evaluation of evidence to establish a position on the topic ( The Purdue OWL).

Task: In this task you will compose an argumentative research essay that takes the form of a proposal directed to a specific administrator in the appropriate office to address funding for your reforms/activity.

Your proposal will be organized by laying out the problem and moving to the solution.

The problem section might include details and facts that you have gathered in your blog, review and research into funding. Moving into the solution portion of the proposal you must: present not only your solution, but briefly touch on other solutions as a way to highlight why your request is the best way to solve the problem, detail how your proposed fund increase would be utilized, provide evidence of the benefits of this funding and persuasively call the reader to action.

Due to these increasing economic challenges in higher education, your proposal will need to include specific details about what the various expenses of the activity will be and why you should be granted funds. These details will enable you to persuasively argue for your cause.

Completing this task will require that you back up your claims with credible research (at least four sources) included in MLA format with a works cited page at the end.
