Objective: the student will demonstrate memorization, characterization, and blocking skills.

Assignment:

You will select, memorize, and perform a 1-1 1/2 minute monologue.

A monologue is a one character act, where we only hear one character. A monologue may be funny or serious, or a mixture.

You character can be speaking: to the audience

on the telephone

to himself or an inanimate object (like a teddy bear, etc.) to a person we can’t see

(Pretend this invisible character is where the audience is so the audience sees your face)

Resources: monologue books, book stores, libraries, internet, novels, short stories, etc. Your subject matter and language must be appropriate for the classroom.

Character Collage

You will create a collage that will reveal things about your character. Be prepared to show the class your collage and explain your choices.

Instructions:

Choose a background color that will be an appropriate color for your character. Cut and Paste materials on your paper neatly and securely.

Write your character’s full name as s/he would write it in the middle of the paper.

 

Draw a picture of your character’s favorite object.

 

Attach a wrapper or draw a picture of your character’s favorite snack. Attach or draw a picture of your character’s favorite food.

Write out three adjectives (words) from magazines that describe your character.

Write out three nouns (words) that describe your character.

Cut and Paste out an outline of the state your character is from. Write in the city. Draw or attach a picture of your character’s favorite animal.

Make a cutout of a heart that has a flap that will fold up. Place or draw a picture of something your character loves on it.
