The phase of aggression displayed by Christopher at the beginning of the case description is the trigger phase, which is the first phase in aggression cycle. The rigger in this case is the nurse running towards Christopher to talk to him. All over sudden, from his supposedly normal hyper vigilant state, Christopher is scared by the nurse’s attempt to talk to him and run into his bedroom. The case end with a crisis, where the situation escalates, as Christopher continues to resist the entry of the nurse in his bedroom. The crisis is confirmed by the fact that the nurse calls other nurses to assist her with the situation. (Jim Wright, 2016)

The escalation of Christopher’s aggression could have been minimized by identifying his needs and feelings and reacting to his them accordingly to avoid provocation. According to the case description, the nurse seems to lack respect for Christopher’s space by being persistent in forcing entry into his room which shouldn’t be the case.

De-escalating the situation requires the nurse to talk with Christopher in a manners that helps regain his sense of calm and self-control rather than forcing entry to his room.
