The purpose of this assignment is to assess your understanding and ability to apply descriptive and inferential statistics with healthcare services data.

Write a brief report on the application of descriptive and inferential statistics in the decision-making process in the healthcare administration and management field. Provide at least three well-written paragraphs with examples, and discuss your understanding of these topics. One page should address the application of descriptive statistics, while at least two paragraphs will address the application of inferential statistics. Use this report to measure your understanding of the topic and the material you have learned this week, with the intent of applying these to decision-making situations in the healthcare field.

PART 2 WEEK 5

Descriptive Analysis

Suppose you were given the provider training and patient satisfaction scores for seven hospitals in your locality (as shown below). To summarize this data, provide a descriptive analysis and narrative that includes the mean, median, mode, Variance and standard deviation for both the provider training and patient satisfaction scores. For guidance, ensure you complete your readings on these topic areas using resources made available to you this week.

Note:  Provider Training = percentage of hospital physicians that have completed the patient communications training.

Patient Satisfaction = percentage of patient experience surveys rated “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied” for their most recent inpatient stay.

Inferential Statistics

Using the data in Table 4 (above), investigate the relationship between the average score for provider training and patient satisfaction by hospitals in your locality. There are seven hospitals with average scores for both provider training and patient satisfaction. Use the Pearson correlation to measure the strength and direction of the relationship between the two scores.

For this assignment, ensure you complete your readings in relation to a) analyzing continuous variables and b) analyzing the relationship between two variables (correlation). These readings can be found in this week’s resource.  Show your calculation and results by producing tables and charts as applicable. If you have any questions about this assignment, do not hesitate to ask your professor.
