Week 2 discussion

DQ1 Explain two main theories of psychology that helped develop the field of coaching. What are two differences and similarities between Positive Psychology and Coaching?

DQ2 In all client interactions, the coach evaluates the needs of the client. Within this process there is the use of a theoretical lens on how the client would best move forward towards their goals. When thinking about your own perspective of theory in coaching, how might you determine the “best” fit of theory for the client and still maintain your integrity to your perspective?

Week 3 discussion

DQ1 One of your clients, “Shelley” sends you at least four emails a day and will call your office up to six times a day. How will you address this issue with Shelley? What other boundary issues could potentially occur?

DQ2 How will you keep your client records? How do you keep confidential information confidential and how do you know what to report? How will you discern when to self-disclose? Why is privacy so important in the coaching process?

DQ1 Explain the main concepts of Emotional Intelligence and provide clear examples of each concept.

DQ2 Discuss how emotional intelligences impacts emotional response, behavior, and motivation. Include in the discussion two clear examples from personal or professional experience. Be concise in examples.

Week 5 discussion

DQ1 Identify and explain the “roadmap” concept within coaching. Provide a clear example of a) why this is important to meeting objectives with a client and b) how this maintains integrity within the coaching process

DQ2 Identify and discuss four main concepts of the basic skill set needed in coaching. Provide clear examples of each skill.

Week 6 discussion

DQ1 Explain and discuss the main components of the coach/client relationship?

DQ2 Consider the case of George in Chapter 3 of the text. How does Proschaka’s six stages of developmental change apply to the case? Discuss the three of the question strategies listed for George’s case on page 75. How will this help George determine goals for coaching?

Week 7 discussion

DQ1 What are some resources (books, journaling), you are already familiar with, that you could recommend to a client? List some resources and what type of client each would help. How will you maintain a list of resources for a variety of clients?

DQ2 Visit a couple of life coaching blogs. What did you see? What was appealing? Was it clear? What recommendations would you make to the blogger?

Week 8 discussion

DQ1 Share your niche and why you have chosen that niche. Briefly share your coaching philosophy.

DQ2 Where can you find information on professional development, professional organizations, and finding a mentor? List some resources you found. What is needed to join the organizations or to obtain professional development? What would be the benefit of a coach having a mentor?
