Week 1 Discussion

MHA Program and Professional Aspirations

Post your responses to the Discussion based on the course requirements. Your Discussion postings should be written in standard edited English. Initial postings must be 250–350 words.

As you begin the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program at Walden University, you have an opportunity to develop a community of support with your colleagues. In this Discussion, you begin establishing valuable connections with colleagues by sharing personal reflections on your journey to this MHA program and where you hope your degree will take you in the future. You also consider current trends in health care and how this degree program will help you address issues and/or challenges as a health care administrator.

To prepare for this Discussion, review the Learning Resources assigned in this module. Reflect on the influence and value of health care in your life. Think about the various experiences you have had as a patient or consumer, a citizen or community member, and/or a professional in a related field. Why is health care delivery important, from your personal perspective as well as from a societal perspective?

Next, consider what motivated you to pursue an MHA degree at Walden University at this specific time in your life. What do you expect to gain through your work in this degree program?

Review the trends presented in the Learning Resources. Which of these trends would you most like to learn about and address as a student at Walden and as a health care administrator? How might this degree prepare you to tackle the issues or challenges presented by current health care trends? If you are an international student, you may investigate trends that are likely to impact health care delivery in your country.

Post by Day 3 a cohesive response to the following:

Explain your career/program aspirations, your reasons for pursuing an MHA degree at Walden University, and your expectations for this program.

Evaluate one health care trend that may present issues or challenges for health care administrators, managers, or leaders. Explain how earning this degree may help you address those issues or challenges.

Support your response by identifying and explaining key points and/or examples presented in the Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. Consider how your colleagues’ postings relate to the information presented in the Learning Resources and to your own posting.

Respond by Day 5 to at least two of your colleagues’ postings, deepening the discussion of how each colleague’s degree program and career aspirations relate to issues or trends that are likely to impact health care delivery in the United States and/or around the world. Share examples from the Learning Resources to support your response. You may also ask follow-up questions about each person’s experiences and goals and offer words of encouragement.

Continue this Discussion until the end of the module, Day 7 of Week 1, by responding to questions and deepening the discourse on topics addressed in this module.
