This is due to the massive killings which have been happening for decades. The weapons have widely available to the civilians who eventually misuse them in the name of self-defense. Self-defense doesn’t mean murder but protection of one’s life when exposed to danger. Weapons are meant to protect lives and mostly they ought to be in the hands of the government. The massive killings witnessed so far indicate that civilians have got broad access to weapons. In my essay, I’m going to emphasize the reasons for banning of weapons among civilians. The FBI’s report on crime in the US indicates that over 2 million crime cases were reported in 1993. These include; robbery with violence, murder, and rape. According to Jacobs, J. B. (2015) over 500000 of these cases were committed by use of firearms. This is an indication that access to weapons among civilians accelerates crime. It’s not an easy task to commit a crime without firearms. Criminals use them to frighten their victims. The government should ban the holding and the use of the weapons completely. This will help minimize crime in the US.Majority of the American civilians possess very little knowledge on the use of the firearms. No awareness has ever been delivered to the civilians. Jacobs, J. B. (2015) urged that without knowledge, the holding and use of the weapons are dangerous. It is risky to both the user and the rest in the society. One is likely to shoot themselves or anyone around them unknowingly. This exposes the society to more danger of frequent killings. I think this is also one of the main reasons there have been massive killings in the US. Civilians have been wide access to weapons while they have little knowledge about them. Consequently, no one ought to possess a firearm without a permit from the security personnel. This will ensure only knowledgeable and trusted personnel hold these dangerous weapons. Majority of the criminals use handguns which have been stolen from the security personnel. Thus, means that handguns are convenient to them when committing a crime. The government should ban the possession and use of these small firearms which previously have been in use by the civilians. Possession of these weapons by majority means that the security personnel has the same weapons held by the civilians Roff, H. (2016). The security personnel will be exposed to very hard moments when fighting crime. This will make the fight against crime ineffective hence more insecurity in our nation. In conclusion, I think crime rate has been accelerated by the increased use of the firearms by the civilians. Criminals take this advantage of the accessibility. They possess them to make their operations effective. Crime cannot rise too much when there are a few weapons available to civilians. Use of firearms conducts most of the criminal cases. The government through the Institute of Injustice should eradicate this. The institute should secretly get information in the society on the victims. They will later report this to the police who detain the suspects to get more information. Crime can only end up if the government and the society join hands to take firearms away from the hands of criminals.
