ach student needs to select a topic in Dance Studies about which they would like to complete the Research Project. Each student will post their proposal to their group along with a subtopic outline. Each student will post this information in their “Group” Topic Proposals & Outlines discussion in Canvas. Students need to do enough research online to verify that their topic is valid and that there are ample, reputable online sources for their topic. Each subtopic outline must have an area of research for each group member. For example, if there are 5 members in your group, each subtopic outline must have 5 different areas for research. A model has been posted in the “Start Here!” module or click “next” at the bottom right of this screen to access it. After the deadline, group members will reach a consensus about which topic proposal to research. Each group will decide on 1 cohesive topic, which means you might elect to blend multiple topic proposals together. I recommend students post their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preferences to the group within 48 hours of the deadline. 1 way to decide which topic proposal and outline is favored most is to assign 3 points for each 1st place received, 2 points for each 2nd place received, and 1 point for each 3rd place received. The proposal and outline with the most points is the selected proposal and outline. The topic and proposal should be selected within 1 week of the deadline for submitting part 1. Group members will also decide how to divide up the research. All students are expected to share equally in the work and each member should be responsible for one area of research. Please note that students are required to gather information that is NOT included in the course materials (the lectures, textbook or videos). I recommend that groups select a topic that is not discussed extensively, or at all, in this course because the vast majority of the information contained in the Research Project must not be covered in the course materials. A minimum of 75% of the information contained in your paper must come from sources outside of class.  That means only 25% of your information can be included in the course materials.
