write minimum 1500 words MLA format based on the instruction

write minimum 1500 words MLA format based on the instructions While teaching American Government over the years, I have been struck by how little students really know about the two major political parties in the United States. You turn 18 in school or just after graduation and you are asked to vote in an election and you have to pick a side for the first time and for most students, they just ask someone who they voted for and go with their choice. I think it is very important for you to figure out what issues are important to you and which political parties best match one of the political parties that exists in the United States today. You may even find that one of the smaller independent political party’s best reflects your values.Your task for this paper is to write a minimum five (5) page paper using following criteria to see which political party you identify with and why you do. I could care less which one you pick, but I want you to work your way down through the list and then look at each of the websites for the Democratic and Republican Parties or any of the independent parties and figure out why you are a good fit as a voter for that party. What policies specifically do you like about one of the parties and which ones of the others don’t you like. I have listed various issues that have an impact on voting. After every presidential election both sides try to figure out why they won or lost and which groups they attracted or alienated in the election. It is this analysis that goes into figuring out the political strategy for the next presidential election and what each of the parties should stand for. No voter perfectly aligns with a party on every issue. Try to figure out what is most important to you and then figure out who really best suits your political beliefs. There are always exceptions to voters and how they end up voting, I would definitely be one of them. If you looked at me on paper without talking to me, you would be very happy if you were a strategist for the Democratic Party. By all accounts, my ethnicity, my profession, my union membership, my education, my family background would all point to a sure voter for the Democratic Party, but this has never been the case. Just because you fit a demographic does not mean you have to align with one party over another, you get to decide which party best fits YOUR views and beliefs. These views and beliefs might change over time and throughout your life. One final thought, if you don’t vote then it is my opinion that you give up your ticket to complain later on when someone you don’t like gets elected. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain.Democratic Party Website: https://democrats.org/Republican Party Website: https://www.gop.com/Family/Parent Impact on new voters- What political party your parents align with has one of the strongest impacts on young voters when they are picking a political party. This is true in both positive and negative ways. Sometimes I have seen families where the son or daughter closely aligns with the parents political views. This makes complete sense since they have grown up in their households and have listened to the parents speak. In other times, the kid will go the complete opposite either because their values are completely different from their parents or they want to get back at the parent. Then there are the split families with one parent strongly Democrat and the other a staunch Republican. I can’t say I’ve seen any trend with these kids, but the kids voting independent might be the trend if we could call it that. Young voters overwhelmingly today register as independents, but we know from election results that they don’t when it comes to actually voting on Election Day. They tend to side with one of the major parties in the presidential election.Religion: Why in the world would my parents only vote for a Democratic Presidential candidate once in their lives when they were lifelong registered Democrats? Answer: Religion. My parents were/are Catholic and Kennedy in 1960 was an Irish/Catholic Presidential candidate. Whether an individual is religious or not has a profound impact on which political party they vote for.Education-The level of education of voters seems to have an impact on which party voters align with. Less educated voters at times vote for the Republicans since Republican candidates would be more in favor of keeping the jobs that require less education in the United States that these same voters would qualify for because they may have only finished high school. At the other end of the spectrum some of the most educated voters tend to align with the Democratic Party. There are a variety of theories for this from college professors are notoriously liberal and these voters were educated by these professors to higher education tends to lead to greater income levels in their jobs and so there is more money to contribute in higher taxes to those that are poor. Voters in the middle of the education spectrum have no strong attachment to one party over another.Ethnicity/Race-Certain ethnic groups tend to vote for one political party or the other. Cubans around Miami have been staunch Republican supporters while Mexican-Americans align with the Democratic Party. We also tend to see overlap between ethnicity and also other areas such as religion. The “Bible Belt of the deep Southern part of the United States tends to see African Americans sometimes vote in different ways than the rest of African Americans in other areas of the country. African Americans in the Deep South are generally very religious which have them lean towards the Republican Party; however, despite voting initially for the Republican Party (the party of Lincoln) since the Great Depression, they have voted for Democratic candidates.Income-Lower incomes/and the highest income levels tend to vote for Democrats, while upper middle class/wealthier individuals tend to vote for Republicans. If you ask most Americans where they fall in the wealth spectrum, you will tend to get an answer of “middle class” regardless of whether they are or not middle class. So you can figure out where your family fits into the income spectrum with the following income levels. The average annual family household income for the United States in 2019 was $65,000. To be in the top 1%, your family would have to make a combined $421,000 per year. To be officially living in poverty in the United States, a family of four would have to make $26,000 or less.Gender-Up until the 1950’s women tended to vote for Republican candidates, they then switched to supporting Democratic candidates. There has been over the last 50 years a strong following of women supporting the Democratic Party. Men during the same 50 year span have tended to be more likely to vote for Republican candidates.Abortion Rights-There does tend to be a correlation to people who are pro-choice voting for Democratic candidates and people who are opposed to abortion supporting Republican candidates.Gay Rights-People who strongly support gay/Lesbian rights tend to vote Democratic and those opposed are aligned with the Republican Party. There has been some movement in this issue with Republicans in the last 15 years, see Carl DeMaio, a local Republican gay politician. The region of the country you grew up in: People who come from different parts of the United States think differently about issues. I have travelled pretty extensively across this country and have experienced these differences first hand. Some of you may have been born or lived in a different region of the United States or perhaps the world, and this has shaped your belief system. Pacific Northwest & North East are strong supporters of the Democratic Party while the Deep South of the United States tends to vote Republican.Profession-Certain professions have strong ties to either the Democratic or Republican parties. Typically if a profession is union dominated, these professions advocate for Democratic candidates, see the teaching profession. Technology companies are also a strong supporter of the Democratic Party. On the other hand, members of the military tend to be supportive of Republicans.Age-How old you are has a definite impact on which party you identify with. Young voters tend to be more liberal and identify with independent parties or the Democratic Party. As voters get older there is a trend to vote more in line with the Republican Party. However, early polling is showing Joe Biden with a sizable lead over Trump in the upcoming election. If this holds true, it will be a reversal of 30 years of Presidential elections in the United States for older voters voting for Republican candidates.Small Business Owners-Small Business Owners usually favor Republican candidates because of tax and health care policies endorsed by the Republican Party. The current polling shows strong support for Trump over Biden by small business owners. Democratic candidates are more likely to be in favor of programs that are very costly to small business owners such as raising the minimum wage to “living wages” and universal health care which would result in much higher taxes on small businesses.
