A global health issue that is affecting not only the US but the health community globally is the COVID-19 pandemic. Most individuals infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment. Hospitals and healthcare systems globally are facing financial challenges due to the pandemic. Shortage of supplies include personal protective equipment, hospital equipment, and sanitization supplies. The major contributing factor for the strain felt on health systems internationally were due to a lack of preparedness to handle a large pandemic. Many hospitals asked their community for donations of PPE. Many health care professionals were forced to reuse elements of PPE (Kaye et al., 2020). Health care delivery systems are working collectively to address the current pandemic, and be more prepared for a large-scale pandemic in the future.
