The Research Paper
The final requirement of this class is a mini-research project and brief narrated PowerPoint presentation (7-10 minutes in length), focusing on a particular issue of interest to you in the field of literacy education. Your research may focus, for example, on miscue analysis, reading programs, reading intervention programs, phonics-first programs, the NJ Student Learning Standards, or other topics of interest to you that deal with the subject matter of this course.
You will summarize your findings in a short research paper, approximately five-seven pages in length, including your works cited. Your paper must use one-inch margins throughout. It should be double-spaced and should use either the Times, Times Roman, or Helvetica font. (Times and Times Roman are the standard fonts in most research papers.) Font size should be 12 pt. Your paper must be formatted in APA documentation style. Model your paper on the Review of the Literature section in a research article (similar to those found in professional journals).
Follow the exact format for your citations as outlined in the APA Publication Manual. Indent as illustrated in the manual. Double-space all entries, but do not skip lines between citations. Entries must be placed in alphabetical order. Every work cited in the text must be included in your citationsincluding citations for references that appear within a secondary source. Remember to italicize the titles of books, journals, and certain media. Distinguish between in-text citations and the citations that appear at the end of your report.
