Due: Sunday June 27th, by 11:59 pm in the Turnitin link found in the Exploratory Essay Folder (located below the link for the instructions), and in the Part 2 Discussion Board.

Preview: There will be a workshop, or rather a peer edit, on this exploratory essay. Partners for this assignment will be disseminated on Monday, June 28th  at 8:00 pm. **If you do not successfully submit an essay to the Part 2 Discussion Board, then you will workshop your own essay with the understanding that 50pts will be deducted from your workshop grade, as youve only completed half of the assignments instructions. ** 

There will be a Workshop folder that will appear on Monday, June 28th in Week 7. There you will find your workshop partner, instructions for the workshop, posting boards for the workshop, due times and due dates, etc. Read carefully and respond fully.

Instruction Summary:

An exploratory piece is self-defined. The idea of this 2-page response is to explore a question(s) that came to mind while reading/re-reading text. The paper usually begins with a question and the author works through the limited page length to question their questions and offer answers for those questions. This is the only time a formal paper will have a question in it. The more creative the author is with her or his question, the better informed the reader, your professor, will be. Questions should not seem random in this paper and there should be a transition placed between the questions. The exploratory essay usually does not have a thesis statement. The essay is designed to add information as it asks questions. Think of this as a structured brainstorm on paper as exemplified in our textbook.

Ask yourself: What are the overarching themes or topics? What do I know about this topic? What information does the text give me about the topic? What creative questions can I ask? What information do I need to give the reader to help her/him follow my thoughts about this topic/question/idea? Remember to ask those challenging beautiful questions and then take on the task of answering some of them in light of the text given to you, listed above. 

Note: One question leads to another and as answers are found they lead to other questions.

The main focus in such a short piece is to gather your thoughts and present them in careful and coherent fashion. There is no need for a neat conclusion or a carefully crafted structure, although the essay form can be of enormous assistance in helping you think through what you want to say.

You may not go under or over the 2-page limit. Work on your length and what ideas may or maybe be enough, or are too much for this paper.

Failure to submit the essay with these specific technical specifications will incur point reductions.
