Assignment: Program Writing Sample: Philosophy of Education

For this assignment, you will write your personal philosophy of education as a developing teacher professional, to use as a guidepost for your continued growth through the program. Keep in mind that this is not your one and only opportunity to put your philosophy into words. You will have the opportunity to revise and expand on your teaching philosophy throughout this program—even throughout your teaching career. In fact, you are encouraged to do so, as your own thinking evolves and your experiences shape and reshape your approach to teaching and learning.

To prepare:

· Reflect on education theorists whose thinking most strongly influences your own.

· Reflect on your beliefs about the purpose of education.

· Reflect on your beliefs about the role of a teacher.

· Reflect on your beliefs about children and your goals for reaching and teaching every student.

· Reflect on your understanding how the multiple developmental domains of students (physical, social, emotional, moral, and cognitive) affect learning.

· Reflect on the ethnical responsibilities of a teacher that influence your teaching philosophy.

· Relief on your mission as a Walden University teaching candidate to promote positive change for students, families, and/or communities.

· Consider other ideas and goals that are part of your current philosophy as a developing professional educator.

· Speak to an educator you know or a someone who works with children to gain their perspective

· Keep in mind that you will post your philosophy on your professional website, where others—including future school districts that may hire you and parents whose children you may teach in the future—can read it. Think about how to present your most professional self.

· Access the Walden Course Paper Template from the Week 6 Learning Resources. Note: You are not required to provide an abstract for this Assignment.

To complete this Assignment:

Prepare your teaching philosophy in two parts.

1. Create a one-page list of beliefs that comprise your teaching philosophy. Write statements that address the following:

· Your beliefs about the purpose of education

· Your beliefs about the role of a teacher

· Your beliefs about children that serve as your guiding principles for reaching and teaching every student

· Your beliefs about the ethical responsibilities of a teacher

· Your beliefs how teachers make instructional decisions based on the developmental domains of their individual students

· Your beliefs about your mission to promote positive change as a teacher

2. Using the Walden Course Paper template, write a narrative explanation of your teaching philosophy. Include the following points and cite Learning Resources in APA style:

· Summarize your overall teaching philosophy.

· Explain each set of beliefs that make up your teaching philosophy.

· For each set of beliefs, describe specific influences that shape your current thinking.

· Cite references presented in the resources that most closely align with your thinking.

· Cite one or more education theorists discussed in the text whose concepts and work have the most influence on your teaching philosophy.

· Explain how you can use your philosophy statement of beliefs as a "living" document for supporting your reflection and self-assessment as a developing teacher professional.
