Post MGT201 module 2 Assignment

Assignment due this week. You need to describe Four (4) Equal Employment Opportunity Laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Equal Pay Act of 1963, Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, Sexual Harassment, etc. or laws that have been passed to protect workers such as OSHA.

The presentation needs to consist of a cover sheet, introduction, a minimum of four pages for each law, conclusion and a list of References – please follow directions very closely.

For each law you need to include sheets for each of the following four questions:

The history and background on why the Law was passed and who the law protects. To understand the law you must first understand its history.
The date the law was passed and the law’s major components (use a source and cite the source – show that you understand the tenets of the law) – if you need to quote sections of the law that is okay. Do not cut and paste from a source. An understanding of the law is needed.
Your own observations on the law and whether it works or not? Do you know someone who was affected by the law? If not research the law’s effectiveness? This page also needs to show your understanding.
A court case that has been brought against a company, individual, business (name the company and date of the case) and how the court decided the case. Describe the court case along with the court’s decision and if it affected the law. It is important that in reading this summary a person understands why the lawsuit was made and who won the case.
Since this is a PowerPoint presentation please make SURE the presentation IS concise and to the point with bullets. But remember that substantiate data is still needed, especially in regards to the background, contents of the law and the court cases.

TheEEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination.EEOC keeps an extensive archive of court cases affecting all aspects of violations from age discrimination, pregnancy, lack of handicap accessibility, sexual harassment, discrimination based on gender, race, religion, etc. Find laws that you feel are of interest to you. Court cases on these issues are going on daily.

TheEEOC can be your primary research tool along with the Library, business journals, magazines and accredited newspapers. All have covered the history of the laws as well as lawsuits brought by employees.

Please use Microsoft PowerPoint and highlight the major points with bullets. This can be a very creative assignment so you need to use your imagination on the information included. Please note you are not being graded on your PowerPoint expertise but on the flow and contents of the data. The presentation should be a minimum of four pages per law. Your presentation will be evaluated based on your level of insight, your demonstrated understanding of course concepts and the quality of your summaries.

Grading Rubric for this assignment is under Course Information.

Assignment due by 11:59 p.m. Sunday evening.

Post MGT201 module 4 Assignment

Job Description (and Daily Activity Work Log)

This week your completed Job Description (along with your Daily Activity Work Log) is due.

Job Descriptions help protect employers from potential lawsuits by explaining the skills the employee must have to be hired. If an employee fails to display the required skills, a job description can be used by the employer as a defense against discrimination complaints. They are statements that describe in detail the required tasks, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and reporting structure required for the position. The finished Job Description is used as the basis for the employee’s guidance on the duties of the job, for performance reviews, to determine compensation and job postings.

Instructions:

Using the job description format that was attached in Unit 3 (also attached hereto) to prepare a comprehensive and complete Job Description based on the Daily Activity Work Log along with the other requirements of the job (education, experience, special skills, etc.)
Prior to doing the Job Description make sure you have a good understanding of what needs to be included. Full instructions are included in the readings and resources under Unit 3. Instructions on “How to develop Job Descriptions) are also included in Unit 4 Readings and Resources.
The Job Description, along with a copy of the Daily Activity Work Log, is due by 11:59 p.m. Sunday evening

Post MGT201 module 6 Assignment

The third part of your Assignment is to write an analytical paper on Performance Appraisals is due by 11:59 Sunday

Instructions:

Select one of the following articles to analyze:

Time to Scrap Performance Appraisals by Josh Bersin, May 6, 2013 Forbes Magazine or

Make Performance Appraisal Changes Friendly by Edwin Lawler, III, July 29, 2013, Forbes Magazines

Answer the following questions separately (make sure you include the question with your response):

Summarize the key points in the selected article. You need to show an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the points made by the author in relationship to Performance Appraisals.

Do you agree or disagree with the points made by the author? Explain your reasoning with your theory on why companies should or should not have Performance Appraisals.

To support your theory additional research is needed. Find an academic article (from a valid business source such as Forbes, Fortune, Bloomberg News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc.) that backs up your theory on whether companies should or should not have performance appraisals. Once you locate the article summarize the key points the author makes and explain why it coincides with your points. This is a good exercise to test your research skills.

Requirements:

Microsoft Word Document with APA formatting and 12 pt. font double spaced

Provide a title page, minimum 3 pages of content and a separate reference page (include the article noted above plus information from the Units and other credible sources to support your views)

Cite all your sources and include them in your Reference (APA format guidelines under Course Information)

Each question should be answered separately with two to three paragraphs of substantiate data.

Important: The purpose of this assignment is to measure the student’s understanding of the lessons learned via class lectures, supporting documentations within the Units and your own research. Cutting and pasting from a resource is not allowed. You need to research a topic for full understanding and then present the information in your own words. All information that is reworded or restated still needs to be cited in accord with APA guidelines. Safe Assign may be used to prevent plagiarism and to create opportunities to help students identify how to properly attribute sources
