3. What is a quality system? How is it important to an organization?

A quality system is one that integrates user interface with a desired output that creates a user experience that continues to keep them coming back for more. A system may be a set of rules in place that get you from start to finish or a product that is created from several things.

Definition:

“A quality system is a specific implementation of quality philosophies/concepts, standards, methodologies and tools, for the purpose of achieving quality-related goals. When implemented, a quality system will be unique to an organization.” (Radziwill, 2019)

Yes this is a good by the book description of what this means. Breaking it down i believe that it is a set of things that feed into each other. The overall goal is to satisfy two needs. 1. Need of the user or customer and 2. Satisfy the needs of the business. If the business does not have a quality system in many different aspects it could lose out significantly.

For instance lets look at Apple. They have a quality product because they listen to the people and what they need. If that Apple watch has issues getting from production to the end user does quality go down? Maybe it does or a perception of “maybe i don’t really need it”. All in all a quality system is needed to complete in todays markets. System that feed other systems are highly responsive to it’s customers and will change with the demand. 

It is very important for an organization to adapt to this way of thinking or it would lose out on potential customers and continuing to make something more people need.

4. Of Deming’s 14 points, pick two and discuss their importance to quality and a quality system.

#5 Improve constantly and forever the system of production and service.

This point is important to quality and a quality system because change is inevitable. No matter how perfect a system may seem, there is always room for improvement. Additionally, just because a certain production method is thought to have been mastered does not mean that a competitor will not try to find a way to do it better.  A process that remains stagnant will eventually be overtaken by new methods and procedures. 

#8 Drive out fear. Create trust. Create a climate for innovation.

I personally associate this point with my service in the military. I tend to gravitate more, and respect leadership that encourages creativity on the job. Even with regulations and SOPs in place fr guidance, we were encouraged to think outside the box whenever we ran into an issue that was not mentioned in writing. I also grew up with my parents continuously expressing that no idea was a dumb idea. The only dumb idea is the one that isn’t attempted; the same goes for unasked questions. People who are afraid to speak up will never do so. An organization that does not promote creativity will not achieve its full potential. Encouraging the members of an organization to be fearless when it comes to innovation will create an environment that welcomes ideas from every end of the spectrum.
