1. I enjoyed reading your post and agree with you when you mention the complications of a woman’s monthly cycle. The difficulties of not being properly prepared or acknowledgment’s of how to take care of their selves can lead to shame and depression. I’m not too sure about having headaches during that time nor heard about anyone else experiencing it, yet everyone is different. Growing women I do believe could have a harder time through puberty than growing men. The fact that women has more body development and adjustments to endure as well as finding ways to cope with their changing bodies.
2. Unfortunately, I had a lot of complications with my cycle. I would get headaches, pains, and would have a hard time functioning at school. I had a tough time during this change in my life. My mom did the best she could to prepare me for what was to come. However, it still was a shock to me when it happened. I remember the very day in seventh grade. That was the day it started, and I was so embarrassed. My friend had an extra sweater that she gave me to wrap around my waist until I was able to get picked up. I will never forget that day and the amount of embarrassment I felt. Of course, my mom did all she could to prepare me after that day, but it was still difficult to adjust to the changes.
3. Adolescence and puberty begins around the age of thirteen, puberty involves biological changes that are very dramatic. Puberty takes many years to occur and can be broken down into two basic stages… adrenarche, which is the activation of the adrenalin glands and the gonadarche the maturing of the sex organs. This process leads to sexual maturity, or fertility the ability to reproduce. The female changes are the growth of the breast, pubic hairs, body growth spurt, change in their skin and voice, menarche or under arm hairs, and the increase of sweat and oil which can cause acne. The changes that males experience are growth of testes, pubic hairs, body growth spurt, growth of the penis, prostrate gland, seminal vesicles, change in the voice, sperm ache, facial and underarm hairs appear, and the increase of the oil and sweat which can cause acne. (McGraw-Hill, 2014) The changes affect the physical, emotional, behavioristic, can cause substance abuse, challenges in their education, health problems, psychological and social problems. The development itself is difficult for the teen to adapt to and the brain somehow does not catch on to the biological experience of “time”. The structure of the brain continue up until the teen 18-25 years old, and during the development of the body the brain is most likely have not matured. (Raising Children)
4. Do you think that it is unfair of us to judge one’s beliefs or their validity based on our own experiences? For example, some of the things our parents teach us seem silly or unnecessary until we are met with challenges that validate those beliefs. Of course, we will need to forge our own path and question our beliefs and the beliefs of others critically if we wish to fully understand ourselves. However, do you think that we will come back to our origins and early belief structure further on down the path? While life challenges us to question our beliefs, does it also reinforce some others even if we have fought their utility?
5. I agree with James Fowler’s concept of the stages of faith that people go through with development. I can recall going through stage 2 of Fowler’s stages of faith. I am a Christian and I remember being at the age of 8 years old when I began to understand my faith in God and seeing him be apart of my life. I had a very strong Christian upbringing and I was even baptized when I was 12 years old. I would say now that I still have my Christian beliefs and values and God is still the center of my life. I did fall short during my teenage years and early adult years where I felt that I strayed away from God and did worldly things, but I feel that now I am back on track with my Christian faith. I do believe that people do go through different stages of faith because I feel that a person’s faith can be tested at times when they go through things in life and that may cause people to question their faith and beliefs.
6. Yes, I have found myself in a lot of areas in the Fowler signs of faith. Growing up and transitioning at a young age from the Baptist Church to the Church of God, it was there where I learned the fear of God, heaven and hell which is stage 1 int he Fowler faith walk. The mothers of the church taught us strict discipline, which included long skirts, no make up, chapel caps, fasting and prayer. We were instilled to live a life without sin in the fear of God. Along with this theory, God would punish us for our sins, and we would die and burn in hell for eternity. Now I am at a stage in my life where I found that God loves me and sent his son to die for my sins and my imperfections. I realize with the holy spirit living in me, I can live a life pleasing unto God without walking like I would be struck with lightening if I sneezed wrong. God is a forgiver of my sins and if I allow the Holy Spirit to lead me, and learn to wait on God to move in areas of my life, I won’t make careless mistakes. I am in stage 5, where I am more aware of the limits that I have through the spirit, and the sacrifice that I have to make in this walk with Christ with my time, talents and treasure. ( McGraw-Hill, 2014)I know where I want to spend eternity and with whom I want to spend it with and that is with Christ Jesus. I have a better understanding of the word of God and in my walk of faith. As we grow we that believe in something take stages of faith leaps, we want to learn more and do more of the things that would cause us to have more spiritual revelations. Like in my relationship, I tend to want to be more in the presence of the Almighty God, I encounter worship on a whole new level now. Being endowed with more spiritual gifts and divine revelations of the word of God
