Initial Post:  Provide the name of a nonprofit group and discuss how they use gifts as a source of revenue. Explain how this organization is successful using any of the gift types listed in this week’s reading. Be sure to list the benefits of receiving gifts.

Readings

Gifts Gift is defined as: 1) a notable capacity, talent, or endowment, 2) something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation, and 3) the act, right, or power of giving (Gift, 2018). Nonprofit organizations receive gifts from three basic sources: individuals, corporations, and other nonprofits (foundations). According to Worth (2016b) these gifts can be classified by defined amount, defined purpose, defined by donor’s perspective, and defined by donor’s method. Under the defined amount classification, there are four types of gifts: principle gift ($1 million or more), major gift ($10,000 or more), leadership annual gift ($1,000 or more), and annual gift (less than $1,000). Gifts classified under defined purpose include capital gift (physical or financial capital), program or project support (support to a specific activity), and unrestricted gift (at the discretion of the receiver and usually used in the current budget year). In the classification of defined donor’s perspective category, you will find the ultimate gift (largest gift of the donor’s lifetime), special gift (one-time gift for specific purpose), and regular gift (recurring gift). Finally, under the defined by donor’s method classification we find the planned gift (planned, expected, or deferred gift), pledge (promise now, pay later), and outright gift (one payment of cash or property).

Review the events from 1754 (the French and Indian War) to 1775 (the Battles at Lexington and Concord). Seeing how the colonists reacted so strongly to the Stamp Act, at what point from 1754 to 1776 was the “point of no return?”  What event — the Boston Massacre, Tea Party, or the Stamp Act — caused the colonists to firmly resolve to fight rather than live under British rule?
