Please describe a current conflict (at your workplace, in the news, etc.). How could Interest Based Bargaining techniques be used to resolve that particular conflict?
This week you read about how the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) trains negotiators to use the principles of Interest-Based Bargaining (IBB) in contract and dispute resolution. You also saw some aspects of IBB in action when you read “Negotiating in Partnership.” This discussion assignment asked you to think about how IBB could be applied to a current conflict.
Remember that IBB is a collaborative approach to resolving labor and management disputes so that it is critical for both parties to work together to develop positive outcomes to the dispute using a joint problem-solving process.
