a. If faced with increasing pressure to get a project done ahead of time, what steps should a project manager take if he feels this will jeopardize project quality?

The first thing a PM should do is communicate with both his team that’s working on the project and his/ her manager or whoever is putting on the pressure. They should let them know about the consequences that may arise if this project were to be rushed. They should explain what certain things could be affected if the project is rushed and how the quality of the project could suffer and how that could lead to many more issues. As well as, using the original project charter to his or her advantage while doing so.

b. Suppose that rather than time, the pressure is to do more with less, that is to accomplish the same scope with staff cuts and budget cuts.  Does that change your answer?  That is, what steps should a PM take if he feels  this  will jeopardize project quality?

This does not really change my answer because just the PM was getting pressured for time affecting quality. Staff cuts may do the same because now you are trying to do more with people that may already feel like they are overworked. This will create new problems and issues on its own. What a PM might need to do is focus on performance, proactively focus on cost drivers, compare and contrast, Help his or her engagement sponsor shine, Think long-term and articulate risks, over-communicate, try to collaborate with other business units, and try to see if they could leverage any outsources. (Think insights, 2022)

c. In addition to the effects that a rushed project might have on project quality, what kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on project team members?

Some short-term effects could include overworking staff that could lead to team members leaving the team which will impact not only the timetable but also having to bring in a new person and teach them all about a project which costs money. Also, rushing to do things might affect the quality of the work. “Rushed projects lead to technical debt

Rushed code = Poor Quality code

Quick projects cost you time later

Why quality is important

more speed less quality” (Hosking, 2015)

some long-term effects may be security risks because someone may have overlooked something. Also, could be that the application just doesn’t work as well as it did in the long term because we know that technology is always evolving.

d)    What kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on the organization or corporation itself?

This could put the organization or corporation itself in a bad place. Because first, in the short term of things they may have people stressed out and leaving their company and just speaking badly about them and how they overworked them and didn’t care about it. But it could also be bad for the company long term because they could lose clients or customers because their work isn’t up to standard. This also could be a security risk that could enable the company to get hacked and lose a lot of sensitive information and/ or money.

a)  If faced with increasing pressure to get a project done ahead of time, what steps should a project manager take if he feels this will jeopardize project quality?

The project manager should first notify the stakeholders and other project team members of the inconvenience. Also, the project manager should state the potential risks that would emerge from the event of finishing the project ahead time. These potential risks and the solutions to mitigate them  can be included in the project charter, work breakdown structure or any diagram used to assess the project (UMGC).

b)Suppose that rather than time, the pressure is to do more with less, that is to accomplish the same scope with staff cuts and budget cuts.  Does that change your answer?  That is, what steps should a PM take if he feels this will jeopardize project quality?

The project manager should account for budget cuts by making adjustments . These accomodations can be introduced in the work breakdown structure where all the work is illustrated into components (UMGC). This adjustments can include reduction on spending and also notifying counterparties and team members of the new budget (“When You’ve Got to Cut Costs-Now”). The project manager should find where the extra spending occurs and account for them. The stakeholders should also be notified.

c)In addition to the effects that a rushed project might have on project quality, what kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on project team members?

A rushed project subjects team members to excessive amount of work in a short period of time. This results in overworking members and create turbulence with their own personal schedule. Project team members are often working on different programs simultaneously (UMGC). Therefore, an overwork can interfere with their other responsibilities in the short term. In the other hand, a long term effect can their expertise . Indeed, by rushing a project manager might not completely acquire the information and experience that the task offers. This will result in a poor skilled project manager.

d)What kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on the organization or corporation itself?

The short-term effect a rushed project has on an organization relies mainly on the quality of their project. Indeed, budget cuts and rushed projects compromise the overall quality of the outcome. The fact that cheaper materials might be used for instance decrease the overall aspect of the project (UMGC). In the long term, the company might affect their reputation due to this poor quality outcomes. This will hinder  relationships with stakeholders and future endeavors.
